Chapter Two, Birth of Life, touches briefly on Earth’s formation, geologic time and dating methods, and early paleontological evidence of life such as stromatolites. Important evolutionary developments such as endosymbiosis are included in the narrative. The evolution of sex and simple multicellular life during the Mesoproterozoic Era is outlined as is the evolution of complex multicellular organisms during the Neoproterozoic Era.
